A fistful of Iron in your West?

Filed under: Comics — by Nobody @ 4:15 am

While I have enjoyed Doug Tennapel's last three OGNs — Creature Tech, Tommysaurus Rex, and Earthboy Jacobus — I admit that I never fell in love with the style he used in those titles. I think he often uses too thick of a brush which obscures his skill as a cartoonist and draftsman (evidenced from his other work) and gives his work a messy appearance.

But I can say without qualification that I am definitely looking forward to his new graphic novel, Iron West! It seems sure to deliver on every promise suggested by the title, as you can see from a few preview pages adorning CBR's interview with the writer and artist.

Over the last few months I've been collecting Western comics without having time to read them, so I anticipate a gigantic comparison review after a summer binge on Desperadoes: Banners of Gold, The Ballad of Sleeping Beauty, Daisy Kutter, Dead West (zombie western), The Wicked West (vampire western), the first collected volume of Loveless (the new Vertigo title by Brian Azarello), and now Iron West, which should make a great addition to the recent rockslide of contributions to this genre.

If you have any other recommendations I should add to my list, don't hesitate to say so. Should I throw the new Jonah Hex into the mix as well when his first trade debuts?
